Building Zoos and Connecting Paths

Getting started

If you do not enjoy starting from a blank canvas, place a complete blueprint and adjust it to your zoo. Frontier’s guide also describes building piece by piece on the grid. For paths, open the Paths menu, choose a tool, set its width and snapping options, then connect the new segment to an existing route or facility.

Start with a blueprint or a small build

You do not need to design every structure from scratch. The official guide describes ready-made blueprints alongside piece-by-piece construction. Pick a blueprint that fits the area, place it, and make only the changes your layout needs. If you prefer custom construction, use the building grid and add pieces in manageable sections; the guide documents the workflow but does not promise that every structure or habitat has a suitable blueprint.

For an early-access example of a creator building in stages, see Kate Emerald’s Planet Zoo 2 aquarium build. Treat it as inspiration for pacing and presentation. It is not a verified blueprint recipe or proof of universal building rules.

Connect paths and adjust width

Frontier documents four path options:

  • Line Builder: place straight segments and customize their length and width.
  • Curve Builder: create curved routes.
  • Draw Tool: draw a custom path or plaza and close the shape by reconnecting to its start.
  • Stamp Builder: place geometric shapes that can snap together or to the building grid.

Open Paths, choose a builder, and set the available Width, Fixed Length, Angle Snap, Length Snap, Working Height, and Height Snap controls for the segment you are placing. The official guide specifically says paths connect Facilities, Habitats, Staff, and Guests; it does not state that any two paths with the same displayed width will automatically join.

For a two-wide route, begin from the existing path endpoint or the intended connection point. Check that the placement preview reaches the target, then place a short segment and verify the join in the live zoo before extending the route. If it misses, adjust the endpoint, width, angle or length snapping, or working height and retry. This is a practical check based on the documented controls, not a confirmed special “two-wide” rule.

Use Guest Paths for ordinary visitor circulation. Staff Paths are a separate type intended for staff and are inaccessible to Guests, according to Frontier’s guide. For plazas, the Draw Tool and Stamp Builder can make a larger connected area; connect that area back to the Guest Path network.

When a build needs 120 m² of climbing space

The phrase “120 m² climbing thing” does not identify a particular species, habitat object, or construction requirement. Frontier’s public building guide does not provide a universal climbing-structure recipe or say that one structure must measure exactly 120 m². Do not treat that number as a game-wide rule.

If an in-game objective or animal panel asks for 120 m², use that exact panel as the requirement: place or resize the relevant climbable habitat area, then recheck the displayed area or welfare need. The required object and measurement can depend on the species or objective. The public guide reviewed here does not establish the calculation method, so verify the specific item and panel in your current game before spending time on a fixed layout.

Evidence limits

The path controls and construction options above come from Frontier’s current Building Your Zoo guide. The selected creator transcript is supplemental context only. The reviewed public sources do not establish a universal path-joining formula, a guaranteed blueprint for every build, or a fixed 120 m² climbing design.

Connect a usable zoo layout
