Supported platforms

Frontier’s current platform FAQ lists PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Its Buy page links PC buyers to Steam and Epic Games Store, with separate PlayStation and Xbox listings for console players. Planet Zoo 2 is not listed for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

How you want to playWhat the official sources sayWhat to check
Windows PCPC is supported; Frontier links to Steam and Epic.Select the correct storefront, edition, and account region.
PlayStationPlayStation 5 is supported.Use the PS5 product listing for your region.
XboxXbox Series X|S is supported.Use the Xbox listing; do not assume a subscription includes the game license.
Steam DeckSteam’s listing marks the game Verified for Steam Deck.Check the live compatibility badge and Steam account listing before buying.
GeForce NOWFrontier says the game will be available through its NVIDIA GeForce NOW partnership.Search the current GeForce NOW catalogue for title and region availability.
macOSFrontier says there are no plans for a macOS release.A cloud-streaming option, if listed in your region, is separate from a native Mac version.
Nintendo Switch / Switch 2Frontier says there are no current plans for either console.Treat third-party speculation as unconfirmed unless Frontier posts a new platform announcement.

Frontier’s FAQ says it has nothing to share about Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus. Xbox lists cloud play with Game Pass tiers but requires you to purchase the game; that is a way to stream an owned Xbox license, not confirmation that Planet Zoo 2 is included in the subscription catalog.

Physical copies and digital stores

Frontier’s FAQ says physical disc editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are scheduled for October 20, 2026, with pre-orders through major retailers. That date is five days after the official FAQ capture date, October 15. The same FAQ lists PC through digital stores and consoles through their official stores. Check the retailer’s live listing for whether a disc copy is actually available, its edition, and any region restrictions.

Online and offline play

The PlayStation Store listing labels online play as optional and lists one player. That store label does not mean every mode or connected feature works offline. Franchise trading, Workshop downloads, cloud saves, and other online features can depend on platform services or a connection. For PC offline use, the sources reviewed do not establish the exact launcher or mode behavior; check the store’s current notes and test the mode you plan to use before travelling without internet.

The Steam product page describes the community service as Frontier Workshop, with player creations shared across platforms. Do not assume that buying the Steam version means the game uses a separate Steam Workshop; open the in-game Frontier Workshop to browse or download creations.

Devices that are not separate platforms

An Xbox Ally X is a Windows handheld, not a separate Planet Zoo 2 console edition. The official platform page confirms PC support but does not promise a device-specific performance level, controller layout, or battery life. Check the handheld’s current game compatibility information and minimum PC requirements before purchasing for that device. Steam Deck has a separate Steam compatibility label; that is the confirmed portable-PC status in the sources reviewed.

If you are choosing between PS5 and Xbox because you expect one to make path building easier, the platform listings confirm availability but do not establish that one has easier controls or better performance. Use the platform-specific gameplay material or current store details for that comparison rather than inferring it from the platform name.

Quick checks before buying

  1. Confirm your device appears in Frontier’s current platform list: PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S.
  2. For Mac or Switch, do not treat a native version as available; Frontier currently says it has no plans for those releases.
  3. For cloud play, verify Planet Zoo 2 in the GeForce NOW catalogue and confirm that you own it on a supported digital store.
  4. For a physical disc, check that the retailer lists the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version and that the release date has passed.
  5. For offline play, confirm the specific mode and online feature you need; the PS5 “online play optional” label is not a blanket offline guarantee.

Evidence limits

Frontier’s platform and service statements were captured on October 15, 2026. GeForce NOW catalog availability and physical stock can vary by region and date. The reviewed sources do not guarantee device-specific performance, all-mode offline access, or a console control advantage.
